Are you looking for a vibrant, professional, and welcoming environment for your child to explore the world of performing arts? Since 2011, Aspire Dance & Stage has been the premier destination for children aged 4 to 18 in the Westhoughton and Bolton areas.
Whether your child is taking their very first steps in a tutu or is an experienced dancer looking to refine their technique at an elite level, we have a class designed specifically for them. At Aspire, we don't just teach steps; we help students build confidence, make lifelong friends, and develop a genuine passion for the stage.
Here is your guide to the diverse range of disciplines we offer.
What Dance Styles Does Aspire Offer?
To ensure the highest standard of training, all of our graded classes follow the prestigious IDTA (International Dance Teachers' Association) framework. This provides our students with a structured path for progression and recognised qualifications that are respected throughout the industry.
Classical and Technical
These classes form the foundation of dance, focusing on posture, rhythm, and core strength. They develop the discipline and body awareness that underpin all other styles.
Ballet: The basis of all dance forms, focusing on grace, discipline, and technique. Ballet training instils musicality, spatial awareness, and a strong physical foundation that benefits every dancer regardless of the other styles they pursue.
Tap: A fun, rhythmic style that develops coordination and musicality. Students learn to use their feet as percussive instruments, working through footwork patterns that grow in complexity as they progress through the grades.
Modern Jazz: An energetic style that combines kicks, leaps, and turns with upbeat music. Rooted in theatrical tradition, this class encourages performance quality alongside technical ability.
Technical Jazz: A deeper dive into the mechanics of jazz dance, perfect for those looking to sharpen their skills and flexibility. This class suits students who wish to push beyond the graded syllabus and explore more demanding choreography.
Expressive and Modern
For dancers who love to move to contemporary sounds and explore storytelling through movement, these styles offer a creative and emotive outlet.
Contemporary Modern: A fluid style that blends elements of several dance genres, encouraging students to use their bodies expressively and respond instinctively to the music.
Lyrical: An emotive style of dance that embodies the lyrics of the music. Students learn to connect deeply with a song's meaning and translate that feeling into movement, making this one of our most popular and rewarding disciplines.
Commercial: The high-energy style seen in music videos and professional stage shows. Commercial classes teach students the sharp, stylised movement vocabulary used in the entertainment industry today.
Street Dance: A popular, urban style focusing on grooves, personality, and coordination. Classes draw from a variety of street styles, giving students a broad understanding of this ever-evolving genre.
More Than Just Dance: Gymnastics at Aspire
In addition to our extensive dance timetable, Aspire is proud to offer Gymnastics classes in Bolton. These sessions are a fantastic way for students to improve their core strength, balance, and agility. Our gymnastics provision complements our dance training perfectly, helping performers gain the physical tricks and body control needed for modern choreography in a safe, expert-led environment. Students who cross-train in gymnastics often find that their confidence in acrobatic elements gives them a genuine edge when performing and auditioning.
Performance Opportunities
At Aspire, we believe that performing in front of an audience is one of the most valuable experiences a young dancer can have. We therefore offer a range of performance opportunities throughout the year, giving students the chance to put everything they have learnt into practice on stage.
Our annual show is a highlight of the Aspire calendar, bringing together students from every class and age group for a professional theatre production that families look forward to each year. In addition, students are encouraged to take part in local festivals and competitions, where they can measure their progress, receive feedback from independent adjudicators, and experience the thrill of competitive performance in a supportive environment.
For those working towards their IDTA examinations, our teachers prepare students thoroughly so they feel confident and well-prepared on the day. Examination results are celebrated as a school community, and achieving a new grade is a proud milestone in every student's journey with us.
What to Expect as a New Student
Starting at a new dance school can feel daunting, but at Aspire we go out of our way to make every new student feel immediately at home. Our teachers and existing students are known for their warm and inclusive attitude, and we actively foster an environment where everyone is encouraged and celebrated.
New students begin with an initial four-week trial period. This gives your child the opportunity to settle into the class, experience our teaching style, and decide whether the discipline is the right fit for them. Our teachers use this time to get to know each student individually, assessing their strengths and identifying areas for development. Following the trial, two months' payment is required upfront to secure your child's permanent place in the class.
If you are unsure which class or grade is most appropriate for your child, please do not hesitate to get in touch. Our experienced instructors are always happy to speak with parents, assess your child's ability, and offer a recommendation. We would far rather a student be placed in the class where they will truly flourish than simply placed according to their age.
